Please note that you are legally obligated to inform and comply with Building Control or an equivalent inspection service when carrying out structural alterations to your property.
Building regulations ensure safe building practices and good workmanship. SKM Planning & Design can submit a Full Plans application on your behalf. Approval before you build means you will vastly reduce potential problems during construction, ensuring you can complete the project within time and on budget.
Following approval, we will ensure you are fully aware of the Building Control inspection and checking process to ensure you attain a Completion Certificate from the council when construction is finished.
48-hour building notices
For smaller and simpler projects, it may be sufficient to proceed under a Building Notice arrangement where the council are informed of the works just 48 hours prior to commencement. In all cases we usually recommend that structural design is carried out to justify the proposals, where required, in order to minimise risks to builders, buildings, and their future occupants.
All works to commercial properties must be approved beforehand by a Full Plans process. If in doubt, contact us or your local Building Control department for advice.
